Selang Khola Hydropower Project

The Selang Khola Hydropower Project is a run-of-river scheme aiming to generate clean, sustainable electricity by harnessing

ProjectOverview

The Selang Khola Hydropower Project, a 990 kW run-of-river facility located in Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, was established on March 5, 2006. Constructed at a cost of NPR 1.97 billion, the project has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and generates an estimated annual energy output of 6.77 GWh.

Project Location

The Selang Khola Hydropower Project is situated in the Central Development Region's Bagmati Zone, within the Sindhupalchok district. Sourcing its water from the Selang and Kalbalyang Khola rivers, the project's intake is located at Ghatte Mul, near Shepgau in the former Selang VDC, while its powerhouse is built on the other side of Kipche, below Bhoteselang. The nearest major town to the project is Chautara.

Hydrology Overview

Drawing from a 14 sq km catchment area on the Selang and Kalbalyang Khola rivers, it utilizes a design discharge of 0.945 cumecs to generate 6.77 GWh of electricity annually for the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
